CR-200 — Character, Death & New Life Rules

STATUS: CURRENT / ENFORCEABLE
Effective: August 24, 2026
Last revised: August 24, 2026

CR-201 — Character concepts and names

Characters must have believable names, motivations, and a concept that can participate in shared roleplay.

Prohibited concepts include direct copies of real celebrities or public officials, names or characters created mainly as a joke, and concepts built primarily to harass, shock, or create repetitive disruption. A character may not claim protected government, judicial, command, medical, law-enforcement, or staff authority unless that role has been granted through the applicable department or administrative process.

Administration may require a name or concept change when it creates confusion, impersonates another member, violates community standards, or conflicts with an approved storyline.

CR-210 — Character separation

Each character is a separate person.

  • Do not transfer money, property, evidence, vehicles, businesses, or privileged information between your own characters.
  • Do not use friends or third parties to route assets or knowledge between your characters.
  • A relationship established by one character does not automatically exist for another.
  • Department records, warrants, criminal history, medical history, and personal knowledge remain with the character to whom they belong.
  • Switching characters to enter the same active scene, protect your interests, recover property, or avoid a consequence is prohibited.

CR-220 — Incapacitation and memory

Incapacitation is not automatically permanent character death.

When your character is treated and returned to play within the same continuing scene, the character may remember what they reasonably perceived before losing consciousness. The character does not hear, see, or learn events that occur while fully unconscious unless another character later explains them.

You must roleplay injuries and treatment in proportion to the scene. Medical staff may describe findings and proposed care, but may not force graphic detail or declare permanent injury without the player's consent or an approved storyline.

CR-230 — Respawn and New Life Rule

The New Life Rule applies when a character uses a respawn or hospital reset without an in-scene medical disposition that continues the same scene.

When the rule applies:

  1. Forget the immediate events that directly caused the character's incapacitation, including the identities of otherwise-unknown attackers and the scene-specific location or plan.
  2. Do not return to, observe, communicate about, retrieve property from, or otherwise influence the same scene for 30 minutes.
  3. Remain at least one mile from the active scene during that period unless staff directs otherwise.
  4. Do not use another character, a friend, a stream, or out-of-character communication to recover information, property, or revenge.
  5. Property left in the scene remains part of that scene until it ends. Staff may restore an essential item when a technical issue, not roleplay, caused the loss.

A scene lasting longer than 30 minutes remains protected while it is visibly active. Staff may shorten, extend, or waive the distance and timer for a documented event, technical recovery, or clear safety reason.

CR-240 — Permanent character death

Permanent character death, also called a character kill or CK, ends that character's playable continuity.

A CK is valid only when:

  • The character's player voluntarily confirms it; or
  • The outcome is part of a storyline approved by administration before the permanent-death condition is triggered.

Another player, faction, court, department, or ordinary scene cannot force a CK. In-character execution, catastrophic injury, or a death declaration by someone else is treated as incapacitation unless the owner consents or prior approval exists.

Administration may retire a character as an explicit disciplinary, access, or continuity decision. That decision must be documented out of character and may be appealed under the enforcement rules.

CR-250 — Major character and storyline approval

Advance administrative approval is required before a character or storyline claims unique public authority, introduces a major government change, creates a community-wide disaster, forces permanent injury or death, relies on unavailable custom assets, or materially controls another player's long-term participation.

Approval applies only to the scope described. Material changes require renewed approval. Ordinary personal stories, lawful businesses, friendships, rivalries, and short scenes do not require pre-approval when they comply with current rules and do not force lasting outcomes on others.
